Jeffy Coltrane has been striving to keep his eleven-year-old daughter Amity and himself in a regular existence on Suavidad Beach ever since his wife, Michelle, departed seven years ago. Their lives is peaceful until Spooky Ed, a neighbourhood oddball, turns up at their door.

Ed gives Jeffy the task of concealing an odd and hazardous item, which he refers to as "the key to everything," and instructs Jeffy to never use it. However, after a visit by a bunch of menacing guys, Jeffy and Amity unintentionally activate the key and unearth a remarkable reality. They can travel between parallel realms that are both familiar and strange, amazing and terrible, thanks to the technology. Jeffy and Amity are left wondering: is Michelle really just a click away?

It's not only Jeffy and Amity that are drawn to the gadget. A man on a sinister mission is pursuing it, intent on using its immense potential for terrible evil. The house that Amity and Jeffy call home could never be safe again unless they can outsmart him.
