Island of the Blue Dolphins

There is an island in the Pacific that resembles a large fish lounging in the water. There are sea elephants and seabirds around, blue dolphins swimming nearby, and otters having fun. Indians used to reside on the island as well. One little child was left behind when they departed and sailed east. The tale of Karana, the Indian girl who spent years living by herself on the Island of the Blue Dolphins, is told here. She watched as one season led into the next, year after year, and waited for a ship to take her away. However, she managed to survive while she waited by creating weapons, gathering food, establishing shelter, and engaging in combat with her adversaries, the wild dogs. It is a story of natural beauty and self-discovery in addition to being an odd survival experience.
