However, Hugh believes his elaborate, confusing, but convenient ruse is about to come apart when he finds out his meddling mother is aboard a ship headed for England. up until he runs into a stunning woman who could be the miracle he needs.

Since their heedless father abandoned them, Minerva Merriwell and her two younger sisters have had to fight for their own needs. As a woodcut engraver, Merriwell Sisters finds little work and are almost without money. Therefore, Minerva realizes that even if Hugh's request to pretend to be his fiancée while his mother is visiting is absurd, it's an offer too sweet to refuse.
