"Sudden Prey" begins and concludes with a death.

Candy is a nasty female bank robber who has been pursued by Lucas Davenport's men for months. When they finally catch up with her, Candy doesn't go gently. She is killed in the subsequent shootout, which is the beginning of Davenport's nightmare. Because her friends and family are much worse than she was, especially her husband, a very aggressive guy who vows to exact just retribution. He will first identify the guilty parties and then take the lives of those closest to them, exactly as they did Candy.

And so it does. One officer's spouse is shot and dies. At work, a coworker's wife is attacked. Davenport realizes the pattern after a third assault is foiled. He hunts down the assassins with a ferocity that comes from fear and anger, working feverishly to find them before they can murder again and take aim at Davenport's own family members. But it could already be too late for him in this attempt.

Did we bring up? He believes that there is a person working for the opposition within the agency. It's challenging.
