The Lost Wife

Six tattooed numerals were there on her forearm, adjacent to a little brown birthmark. "Are you able to recall me now?" he questioned, shaking. She gave him another glance, as if giving a ghost flesh and bones. "It's me, Lenka," he said. Joseph. Your spouse. Lenka, a young art student, falls in love with Josef in the last hours of peace in prewar Prague. They are married, but soon the war's currents tear them apart, just as they do for so many others. Josef builds a family and succeeds as an obstetrician in America, but he never forgets the woman he believes perished in the camps. However, Lenka has managed to live in the Nazi ghetto of Terez??n and, subsequently, in Auschwitz, thanks to her artistic abilities and the recollections of a spouse she feels she will never see again. Decades later, Lenka and Josef reunite due to an unforeseen meeting in New York. The Lost Wife examines the tenacity of a first love, the resiliency of the human spirit, and our ability for memory, from the comforts of life in Prague before to the occupation to the atrocities of Nazi Europe.
