Shakespeare's complex web of love triangles starts out complicated: Hermia is the object of both Lysander and Demetrius' desires, but she only has eyes for Lysander. Unfortunately, Demetrius is everything Hermia's father wants for a son-in-law. Helena is outdoors, and Demetrius is enamored with her unrequited love. Under cover of darkness, Hermia and Lysander intend to escape the city, but a furious Demetrius (who is being followed by a mesmerized Helena) pursues them. Unbeknownst to mankind, Oberon and Titania—the faerie kingdom's king and queen—are fighting in the forest over a servant boy. The story takes an unexpected turn when Puck, Oberon's main mischievous, escapes with a flower and makes everyone fall in love with what they see when they wake up. The issues get really humorous when you add in a group of laborers who are putting on a play for the Duke's wedding (one of whom gets granted a donkey's head and Titania as a lover by Puck).
