Your best buddy is her.

She is privy to all of your secrets.

She's quite hazardous because of this.

In this spooky first thriller in the style of Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train, a single mother's world is turned upside down when her closest friend disappears.

It all begins with a little favor—a common courtesy moms show to one another. Stephanie gladly agrees when her closest friend Emily asks her to bring up her kid Nicky from school. Like her and Emily, Nicky and her five-year-old son Miles are best friends and classmates. They also like spending time together. Living in a wooded suburban Connecticut community as a stay-at-home mommy blogger and widow, Stephanie was lonely until she met Emily, a sophisticated PR professional whose work in Manhattan requires a lot of her time.

Emily, however, does not return. She doesn't respond messages or calls. Stephanie is certain that something is very wrong since, regardless of what the police say, Emily would never abandon Nicky. She is so terrified that she asks her blog followers for assistance. She also extends her emotional support to Emily's husband, the dapper but reserved Sean. She owes her dearest buddy the very least. Then, startling news is delivered to her and Sean. Emily is no more. Her absence has ended, ending the horror.

Does it not? Because in a short while Stephanie will see that nothing is ever as easy as it looks, not even friendship, love, or a simple favour.

A Simple Favour is an amazing psychological thriller story—a deft and winding roller coaster full of secrets and disclosures, murder and retaliation, betrayals and reversals, twists and turns, love and devotion. Darcey Bell skillfully builds suspense in a gripping, unnerving, and totally engrossing tale that has you turning pages until the very end.
