Absolute Power

One of the wealthiest men in the world traps a seasoned professional cat burglar inside his bedroom closet. Through a one-way mirror, the burglar witnesses two Secret Service agents murdering the billionaire's lustful young wife while she tries to fend off the inebriated advances of the country's top executive. The burglar becomes the subject of a covert manhunt led by top executive branch officials as he flees for his life, but not before he finds a bloodstained letter opener that places the president at the site of the murder.

As everything is going on, Jack Graham—a former public defense turned successful corporate lawyer—becomes involved in the case because the burglar on the run happens to be the father of a dedicated Virginia prosecutor, who used to be Graham's financier.

A northern Virginia career police officer's relentless investigation, the hero's broken romance, his conflict over selling out for financial success, the prosecutor's confused love-hate for her father, the morally ambiguous situation in which government agents find themselves caught in a moral bind, the amoral ambitions of a sexy White House Chief of Staff, and the old burglar's determination to overthrow the merciless president are some of the plot whorls that embellish the narrative.

Meanwhile, the sociopathic president is hiding in the novel's middle like a poisonous spider.
