A group of scientists working on surface experiments on a far-off planet are observed by their company-provided "droid," a self-aware SecUnit that has compromised its own governor module and calls itself (though never aloud) "Murderbot." Disrespectful of people, Murderbot only wants to be left alone to discover who it is. However, when a nearby mission disappears, it is up to the scientists and Murderbot to discover the truth.
