An adolescent graphic novel memoir about a non-English speaking, Korean-born girl who is suddenly moved from Seoul to Huntsville, Alabama, and experiences severe cultural shock and loneliness until she finds her love for comic books.
It has always been Robin and her mother against the outside world, as far back as she can recall. Although being the lone kid of a single mother in Seoul, Korea during the 1990s wasn't always easy, it has strongly linked them to one another.
Robin is so horrified when her trip to visit friends in Huntsville, Alabama, turns into a sudden permanent move—followed by her mother's news that she is getting married. Suddenly, her life is different. She is thrust into a new school, where she finds it difficult to keep up because she doesn't speak the language. She can't get to her favorite comics and is shut off from her buddies at home. She doesn't blend in with her new stepfamily at home. Worst of all, she is upset with her mother, the person she is closest to.
One day, though, Robin's mother enrols her in a comic sketching class in the area, opening her eyes to a future she could never have predicted.
