A stranger overpowers Dylan O'Conner as he is driving on a steamy night in Arizona and injects him with an unidentified chemical.
All that is said to him is that, should it not kill him within the next twenty-four hours, he is the "carrier" of something amazing that will change his life in amazing ways rather than a sickness.
Dylan, along with his brother Shep who has autism, and a young lady who is also a "carrier," are now engulfed in a hopeless quest to uncover the shocking reality of who they are and what they may become.
They must, however, first avoid those who are out to harm them.
Their only hope of surviving is to decipher the significance of the messages about a guy who performs his job that Shep starts to repeat as time is running short.
