Cockroaches

Inspector Harry Hole is sent from Oslo to assist cover up the case when the Norwegian ambassador to Thailand is discovered dead in a brothel in Bangkok.

Harry learns, however, that this case involves much more than just one haphazard murder when he gets there. Behind the scenes, there's something more, something more ubiquitous, at work. Stated differently, there are hundreds of cockroaches hiding behind the walls for every one you see in your hotel room. Harry is surrounded by constant traffic noise as he explores Bangkok's streets, which are packed with go-go clubs, temples, opium dens, and tourist traps. Despite nobody asking him to, not even Harry himself, wants him to put together the ambassador's death's narrative.
