Once upon a time, Joy Candellaro preferred Christmas to all other seasons. She is now going through a transition in her life, and as the holiday draws near, she finds herself alone and divorced, unable to rekindle her previous excitement for the occasion. She purchases a ticket and boards an aircraft headed for the stunning Pacific Northwest without informing anybody. Joy takes the audacious choice to just walk away from her regular life when an unanticipated detour leads her deep into the Olympic rainforest. This marks the start of an experience beyond anything she could have dreamed.

Six-year-old Bobby O'Shea is spending his first Christmas without his mother in the little village of Rain Valley. Bobby has cut himself off from the outside world, speaking only to his invisible closest friend since he is unable to cope with the loss. Daniel, his father, is inconsolable and frantically trying to assist his kid deal. However, a strong and profound friendship is formed between these two unexpected individuals when the young boy meets Joy. Joy rediscovers herself by aiding Bobby and Daniel in their recovery.

But in peaceful Rain Valley, things are not always as they appear. Joy's world and heart are shattered in an instant. On a magical Christmas Eve, a night of impossible dreams and unexpected chances, Joy must find the courage to believe in a love--and a family--that can’t possibly exist, and go in search of what she wants . . . and the new life only she can find.
