Not the harsh one Bowers had planned for, it was always a shock. Eve was too experienced to do that. However, she was never used to what one person could do to another. A serial murderer preys on the most defenseless people on the streets of cities throughout the globe with the accuracy of a surgeon. The first victim was discovered dead in New York City and was a homeless person. No indications of a struggle, no bruises. Just a fist-sized, laser-perfect hole where his heart used to be. The investigation is assigned to Detective Eve Dallas. However, as Dallas is drawn into the killer's game of cat and mouse, she also finds herself the subject of an internal inquiry. Eve believes that all she has done is annoy some other police officers who have high-ranking contacts. But the battle to save her job is going to get in the way of her efforts to bring a murderer to justice.
