Crank

Author Ellen Hopkins chronicles the tumultuous and often unsettling connection between her own daughter Kristina and the "monster," the extremely addictive substance crystal meth, sometimes known as "crank." While Kristina is visiting her father, who is ill and hardly seen, she is first exposed to the medication. Under the monster's sway, Kristina comes to terms with her seductive side persona, Bree: "There is no Kristina Georgia Snow. / There is only Bree. / There is no perfect daughter, / no gifted high school junior." All the things Kristina won't do, as a nice girl, Bree will do, including draw the attention of dangerous males who can provide her a constant supply of crank.
