The Night Court's fae are looking for a new ruler desperately to crown before the Court falls.

I don't give a damn.

I've made every effort to accept my human half and bury my fae heritage. When some faerie nobles knock on my door and declare that I'm the new Queen of the Night Court, that all changes.

turning into a reluctant fae queen? Verify. Getting left with an awful mess? Check again.

My citizens' favorite past time is backstabbing one another, the Court is on the verge of bankruptcy, and I'm not sure who to trust because someone is constantly attempting to have me killed.

In relation to assassins, I meet the finest in the biz—a fae lord known by the moniker Wraith. He has no fear of anyone due of his lethal vocation. He also belongs to the Night Court, and the Court's magic keeps me safe, which is the only reason he doesn't instantly kill me. That doesn't stop him from insulting me verbally every time we get together, though.

And as if conversing with assassins and herding all these unruly fae wasn't enough, some ancient Court law requires me to get married. The worst job ever, this "queen" employment!

Although it's said that I can marry anyone, I really need someone who is impartial and won't start any more political power struggles because of all the internal strife.

So why is it that I can't stop picturing this particular assassin?
