A-listers attended the spectacular dinner, which was hosted by the famous couple Brant Fitzhugh and Eliza Lane, who had achieved success in both Hollywood and Broadway. Eve Dallas has now arrived, but she is not a visitor. Fitzhugh raised a toast, collapsed to the ground, and passed away. Physical signs suggested he may have taken cyanide, and the cops had broken up the celebration.
He didn't seem to be the kind of celebrity who easily made enemies. Even his ex-wife couldn't get enough of him. Furthermore, given that Eliza was the intended recipient of the champagne drink that killed him, it's plausible that she was the genuine target—along with her newly dismissed assistant, a resentful competitor, and an adoring admirer. Eve has her job cut out for her trying to figure out who killed someone in the midst of the crowd and why, given the large number of guests, employees, and waiters. She detests the media circus that surrounds a case like this since she herself dislikes being in the limelight. She only wants to determine who is behaving that way and who is really innocent.
