Bianca wants to go away.
After leaving her little village, she enrolled at Evernight Academy, a Gothic boarding school with an unsettling atmosphere. The kids there are intelligent, stylish, and bordering on predatory. Bianca is aware of her outsider status.
After that, she meets Lucas. The fact that he isn't the "Evernight type" also pleases him. Lucas defies convention, confronts the snobs, and cautions Bianca against everything, even loving for him.
