You wouldn't be grinning if you could read my thoughts.
Samantha McAllister has the same appearance as the other popular girls in her junior high school class. However, under the perfectly styled hair and cosmetics lurks a mystery that her friends will never know: Sam suffers from Purely-Obsessional OCD, which causes her to be overcome with constant, negative thoughts and anxieties.
Her life is difficult since she constantly questions her every action, thought, and word. It also doesn't help that her longstanding pals will become toxic at the slightest hint of an inappropriate wardrobe, inappropriate meal, or inappropriate infatuation. Sam understands, however, that leaving the safety of the school's most popular females would be utterly insane. Like her weekly trips to the doctor, Sam has to keep her new companion Caroline, who has a sharp sense of humour and no sense of style, a secret when they first meet.
Sam is introduced by Caroline to Poet's Corner, a secret area inhabited by a close-knit community of outcasts who have been shunned by the larger school. Sam finds herself pulled to them right once, particularly to a verse-playing man on the guitar, and she begins to explore a whole new side of herself. She gradually starts to feel more "normal" than she ever has among the popular set... until she discovers a fresh cause to doubt her sanity and everything she values most.
