Many people are familiar with the story of the young princess and her wicked stepmother, the Wicked Queen. The narrative is always the same, even if different people tell it in somewhat different ways: the Queen was envious of the girl's beauty, and this envy led to the Queen's attempt on the innocent, gentle girl's life.

The story of what turned the Queen into someone so utterly disgusting is another, far lesser-known narrative. Nevertheless, some have made an effort to speculate as to why. It's possible that the Queen was really a nasty witch, and the King was tricked by her stunning, royal look. Some people assert that the girl's similarity to the King's first wife may have made the Queen despise her. The Queen is portrayed most of the time as a morally repugnant person who never loved another person in her wretched existence.

There are perhaps too many ideas to list on the precise source of the Queen's infatuation with herself and her ensuing jealous wrath.
