After years of trying, Helen's dream life—a beautiful architect husband, a stunning Victorian home, and a beloved child on the way—begins to fall apart the day she attends her first prenatal class and meets Rachel, an erratic soon-to-be single mother. Rachel doesn't seem like a typical mother—she drinks, smokes, and says she doesn't really want kids. Helen is still pulled to her. Perhaps all Rachel needs is a buddy. Furthermore, Helen admits to being a little lonely. Rachel is entertaining, at the very least. She diverts Helen's attention from her worries, makes her laugh, and asks for her trust.
But it's worrisome how irregular her conduct is becoming. Not only Helen, however, has noticed. Her relatives and acquaintances start to worry that her odd new buddy could have unforeseen ties to their common past. Beneath the broad-leaved trees and warm lamplight of Greenwich Park, there are many secrets to be discovered, as Rachel reveals that she might disclose a prior crime that could ruin all of their lives.
