Lemuel Gulliver was a ship's physician, and his four journeys are chronicled in Gulliver's Travels. He finds a small version of the globe in Lilliput, where he can see people and their city from the perspective of a deity, towering above them. But small Gulliver himself is watched in the realm of giants, Brobdingnag, where he is shown as a curiosity at fairs and marketplaces. He meets a society of projectors and speculators on the floating island of Laputa who have lost all sense of reality; as they plan and strategize, their nation is in ruins. On his last journey, Gulliver visits the country of the Houyhnhnms, kind horses that he soon grows to respect compared to the Yahoos, filthy bestial animals who have an unsettling similarity to humans. Based on the first edition of 1726, this text reproduces all of the original pictures and features an introduction by Robert Demaria, Jr. that addresses the many interpretations of Gulliver's Travels that have been made since the book's first release. Dublin is where Jonathan Swift (1667–1745) was born.
