The release date for the English version of 'Hey, Kiddo: How I Lost My Mother, Found My Father, and Dealt with Family Addiction' by
Jarrett J. Krosoczka is Oct 2018. If you enjoy this novel, it is available for buy as a paperback from Barnes & Noble or Indigo, as an ebook on the Amazon Kindle store, or as an audiobook on Audible.
Jarrett Krosoczka's kindergarten teacher assigns him to sketch his family, including a mother and a father. However, Jarrett's family tree is much more nuanced than that. His mother is a recovering addict who comes and goes from Jarrett's life. Jarrett has no idea who his father is or even where he lives. He is a mystery. Jarrett lives with his grandparents, a boisterous, affectionate, and very opinionated couple who had assumed parenthood until their grandson arrived.
Throughout his early years, Jarrett tries to normalise his unusual situation as much as he can, using sketching as a means of self-expression despite the fact that very little is spoken to him about it. Jarrett can only start piecing together his family history as an adolescent by confronting his mother and finding his father.
Hey, Kiddo is a really significant memoir about discovering art as a means of survival while growing up in a household dealing with addiction.
