The Grinch was averse to Christmas! the whole season of Christmas!

Now, don't ask me why. The exact cause is unknown."

When it comes to the most grumpy, scowling holiday jerks ever, Dr. Seuss's meek Grinch is right up there with Scrooge.

The Grinch has been living above the Whos of Whoville for 53 years in a cave atop a mountain. He is always annoyed by the cacophonous Christmas preparations and the devilish singing of the joyous little inhabitants below. The Grinch determines that this pointless celebration has to end. His "wonderful, awful" plan is to dress up as Santa Claus, put big antlers on his terrified dog Max, build a makeshift sleigh, go to Whoville, and finally rob the chagrin-inducingly happy Whos of their holiday joy.

The Grinch, dressed in a homemade Santa suit, is very disoriented and unsettling as he scampers down chimneys carrying empty bags, robbing the Whos of their food, gifts, and even the logs from their little Who-fires. When the Whos wake up and realize that the Christmas decorations are no longer there, he drives the dilapidated sleigh to Mount Crumpit to be dumped, where he waits to hear their tears. Imagine the Whos' shock upon learning about Grinch's terrible deeds while posing as Santa Claus. However, what is that noise? Singing instead of crying! Kids both love and hate this triumphant, twisted Seussian ode to the unflinching pleasure of the Whos, the transcendent quality of joy, and, of course, the unbridled possibility for development inherent in a heart that is two sizes too small.

You should read this beloved Christmas classic aloud to your favorite young Whos.
