I Fell in Love with Hope

I fell in love with a cheeky, sun-eyed youngster who became my sole source of happiness in that harsh medical environment. That's why it was even more heartbreaking when he killed himself in front of me.

I've vowed never to love anybody again ever since. With three notable exceptions: a small group of disobedient, dying children named Coeur; my buddies Sony, Neo, and myself. With just one lung to breathe the air of freedom, Sony is leading the charge. Neo, a writer in a wheelchair and with a short fuse, records all of our heroic exploits, from stealing to frightening our caregiver. Coeur is the muscular, attractive lad, kind giant with a failing heart.

My thieves and I have one more theft planned before death surely comes knocking on our doors. A wonderful journey that will transport us far away from our illnesses' reality, debilitating loss, and violent parents. What happens, therefore, if another person enters via the door? What transpires when a female shows up at our party and her cheeky grin leaves me dumbfounded? Even if I'm scared of losing again, what happens when she has sunken eyes and I begin to falter?
