What is the purpose of dying?

What's the point of life?

As she struggles to survive in a concentration camp, thirteen-year-old Elli Friedmann, one of the many innocent victims of the Holocaust, wonders. Elli used to have a regular life, one that was rich and full of family, friends, school, and dreams of males. That was not too long ago. A life where Elli might spend hours lying to herself and pretending to be a well-known, exquisite poet.

But when the Nazis invade Hungary in March 1944, these teenage daydreams swiftly become gloomy. Elli is unable to attend school, own property, or communicate with her neighbors. Subsequently, she and her family are compelled to leave their home and relocate into a densely populated ghetto, where food shortages and privacy become extinct. Elli is able to adapt and adjust in some way because of her strong will and faith, but she is unaware that this is only the beginning and the worst is yet to come.

A very amazing memoir. In addition to being a tale of brutality and suffering, I Have Lived a Thousand Years is also a tale of hope, faith, tenacity, and love.
