In the Afterlight

Ruby had to turn away. She is torn apart by an intolerable loss, and she heads north to reunite with the children who made it out of the government's assault on Los Angeles. Clancy Grey, the president's son, is incarcerated alongside them and one of the few individuals Ruby has come across with skills similar to her own. Ruby is the only one who can control him, and one mistake might let Clancy wreck havoc on their brains.

Their sole weapon is a dangerous secret: evidence of a government plot to conceal the true source of IAAN, the illness that has killed the majority of children in America and given Ruby and thousands like her superpowers that the government will stop at nothing to maintain control over. However, internal conflict could ruin their one and only opportunity to liberate the "rehabilitation camps" that hold thousands of other Psi children.

Meanwhile, Ruby has to deal with the unpleasant consequences of tampering with Liam's memories of her after being reunited with the son she would do everything to keep alive. For the rigorous training she knows she will need to overthrow Grey and the government, she goes to Cole, his elder brother. However, Cole is not without his own problems, and one catastrophic error might be the spark that ignites the whole globe.
