This is Louis's account of his voyage through both mortal and eternal existence, as given in his own words. Louis describes how the beautiful and evil Lestat turned him into a vampire and how he was unwittingly brainwashed into the vampire way of life. Through the streets of New Orleans, his tale ebbs and flows, defining pivotal moments like his discovery of the gorgeous lost small kid Claudia and his desire to soothe her with the last remnants of compassion he has inside of him rather than to do harm. However, he turns Claudia into a vampire by imprisoning her womanly drive, desire, and intellect inside the frame of a little kid. Louis and Claudia have an enduring partnership and temporarily "settle down" in the lavish French Quarter. Louis recalls Claudia's battle with self-awareness and their mutual loathing of Lestat, which drives them to travel half the globe in search of other individuals who share their experiences. Louis and Claudia are on a frantic search for a place to call home, for understanding people, and for someone who understands who and what they are.

After touring Europe, Louis and Claudia arrive in Paris at the very popular Theatre des Vampires, which is a theater where vampires pose as humans and vice versa. They come into the enchanting and ethereal Armand here, who introduces them to an entire vampire culture. Nevertheless, Louis and Claudia discover that looking for others who are similar to them doesn't provide simple solutions and could even put them in danger.

The novel, which started out as a short narrative and spun the sad and glorious adventures of a soul, took off as Anne wrote it. Interview depicts the political and social shifts occurring on two continents in addition to the hardships of its protagonists. Lestat, Anne's most lasting character, is also introduced in the book. He is a powerful blend of appeal and repulsion. The book's themes of power, sexuality, transformation, immortality, and loss are explored in great detail.
