Osage Nation residents in Oklahoma were the wealthiest people in the world per capita in the 1920s. Following the discovery of oil under their property, the Osage erected mansions, sent their kids to study in Europe, and enjoyed chauffeured car rides.
Subsequently, the Osage started to disappear one by one. One of the main targets was the family of Mollie Burkhart, an Osage lady. She lost a relative to gunfire. Someone else was poisoned. And this was just the start; an increasing number of Osage were passing away under strange circumstances, and many of the people who ventured to look into the murders ended up dead as well.
When the number of deaths increased, the recently established FBI took up the investigation, and its rookie director, J. Edgar Hoover, looked to Tom White, a former Texas Ranger, to help him solve the case. Along with the Osage, White assembled an undercover team that included a Native American operative who had entered the area and started revealing one of the worst conspiracies in American history.
