Inspired by actual tales, this debut tells the story of three women whose lives are connected by a mother's love, a long-lost letter, and a covert network of women battling for the freedom to choose.

2017: Determined to track out the intended recipient, Angela Creighton finds a mystery letter with a devastating revelation in it. Her investigation transports her back to Toronto in the 1970s, when a group of courageous women ran an underground abortion network that was only known by the code name Jane, which was whispered.

1971: Dr. Evelyn Taylor was transferred to a facility for "fallen" women when she was a teenager. There, she was forced to give up her baby for adoption, a tragedy from which she has never fully recovered. Determined to provide other women the option she never had, she joins the Jane Network as an abortion provider despite terrifying police raids and the ongoing fear of being arrested.

1980: Twenty-year-old Nancy Mitchell starts to doubt all she has ever known after learning a startling truth about her family. She feels alone when she suddenly gets pregnant and doesn't know who to ask for support. She struggles with her choice and eventually finds "Jane" and a position in the network's ranks alongside Dr. Taylor, but she is never able to get rid of the falsehoods that torment her.
