Missing Joseph

With the intention of mending the developing divide in their marriage, Deborah and Simon St. James have gone on vacation to Lancashire's picturesque winter scenery. However, bad news is waiting for them in the desolate countryside: the man they had gone to meet, the vicar of Winslough, has passed away due to accidental poisoning. Simon brings in his old friend Detective Inspector Thomas Lynley because he is unhappy with the inquest judgment and disturbed by the strong relationship between the investigating officer and the lady who served the fatal dinner. Together, they unearth complicated, dark ties in this little town—relationships that bind men and women together out of love, sadness, or murderous purpose.
