The parish is abruptly (and surprisingly) split when Daniel reveals a proposal to put a restroom in the church. As divisions are made, long-kept secrets threaten to upend the village's seeming tranquility.
Then Anthony Bowness, the patron of Champton and cousin of Bernard de Floures, is discovered dead at the rear of the church after being stabbed in the neck with a pair of secateurs.
