Murder on Astor Place

When midwife Sarah Brandt goes to see her patient at a rooming house after a standard birth, she finds that another boarder—a young girl—has been murdered. Searching the girl's room at Sergeant Frank Malloy's request, she finds that the victim is the sister of an old acquaintance and comes from one of New York's most illustrious families. The wealthy family won't allow an inquiry because they are afraid of controversy. However, with Malloy's assistance, Sarah sets out on a perilous mission to apprehend the murderer before death takes yet another victim.
