My Policeman

Marion is instantly enamoured with Tom, the older brother of her closest friend, who is wide, blond, and blue-eyed. And Marion, a recently licenced teacher, is desperate to win him over when he returns from National Service determined to become a police officer. Unaware of the warning indications that anything is wrong, she marries quickly, believing that her love would enough for the two of them.

However, Tom has another life and another strong claim to his emotions. Curator Patrick of the Brighton Museum, who is also infatuated with his policeman, introduces Tom to a world he had never heard of before. However, it is safer for this police officer to wed his instructor because'minority status' people were despised by both society and the law in those days. Until one of them breaks and three lives are lost, the two lovers must share him.

This masterfully written, agonising, and sad tale is portrayed via the twin narratives of Marion and Patrick, who each write about the guy who is at the core of their existence.It's a story of lost years, misplaced love, dashed hopes, and how so much remained unattainable even at a time when the nation was about to undergo significant transformation.
