Nightcrawling

Kiara, along with her brother Marcus, are struggling to make ends meet at the Regal-Hi, an optimistic apartment complex located in East Oakland. Due to jail and death, both of them dropped out of high school, shattering their family unit. However, Kiara looks for employment to pay their rent, which has more than quadrupled, and to provide food and safety for the nine-year-old kid who lives next door when his mother abandons him, while Marcus holds onto his ambition of becoming a famous rapper.

One evening, a drunken altercation with a stranger develops into the profession Kiara never thought she would need—nightcrawling—which she now badly needs. Her life shattering moment comes when her name appears in an inquiry revealing her as a crucial witness in a major Oakland Police Department corruption.
