One True Thing

After her mother Kate is diagnosed with cancer, Ellen Gulden gives up her lucrative career as a writer in New York to come home and take care of her mother. In the few time they have left, the mother-daughter bond—which is sensitive, uncomfortable, and revealing—deepens, and Ellen is compelled to face up to harsh realities about her beloved father. Ellen transforms from a loving daughter to a potential suspect when Kate dies and is charged with the merciful killing.
