Seven Perfect Things

In the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, thirteen-year-old Abby Hubble and her mother Mary lead a horrible life due to their father. Abby once sees a man throw a litter of puppies into the neighboring river. She realizes she won't be able to bring all seven of them home, yet she dives in to save them all. She brings them to an abandoned cabin out of fear for their future at the pound, where all she can promise is that she will return the next day.

For Elliot Colvin, a sad widower, life has become meaningless. He goes back to the hunting cabin he last visited years ago, before his wife became ill, in search of comfort. He finds seven puppies and one strong girl with an unbreakable heart, which is very different from what he had anticipated.

As their connection grows, Abby considers how much better her life and the lives of the pups would be if her mother and Elliot were married rather than her father. Nevertheless, Abby and her mother have to choose how long they're ready to put off happiness when Abby's father relocates the family hundreds of miles away.
