Sorrowland

Vern runs for the safety of the woods because she is seven months pregnant and has to get out of the strict religious colony where she was raised. She gives birth to twins there with the intention of raising them away from outside influences.

Vern, however, is a woman on the hunt even in the wilderness. Her body ravaged by strange and unexplainable mutations, she is forced to fight back against the community that won't let her go. She unleashes incredible violence well beyond what a person should be capable of.

Vern must confront her past and, more worrisomely, her uncertain future outside of the woods in order to comprehend her transformation and safeguard her small family. Discovering the truth will entail learning more about the violent American past that gave rise to the compound from which she fled.
