Hollow's Edge was once a peaceful area. a quiet, charming neighborhood where people watched out for one another, visited with one another, and shared holiday and graduation celebrations. Subsequently, Brandon and Fiona Truett were murdered. Half a year later, Hollow's Edge is still boiling. The inhabitants are suffocated by their trial testimony that implicated one of their own, stuck in a situation where they cannot sell their houses, and faced with the vacant Truett mansion every day. Fletcher Ruby. And Ruby is back now.

Ruby waltzes back to Hollow's Edge and into the house she lived with Harper Nash after her sentence is reversed. Ruby has always been regarded like a misbehaving little sister by Harper, who is five years older. Now however, she's afraid. What conceivable benefit might Ruby have from going back to the murder scene? Given that she is aware Ruby has nowhere to go, how could she possibly send her away?

Suspicion quickly spreads across Hollow's Edge like a plague. It's becoming more and more obvious that certain people were lying about what happened the night the Truetts were killed. Harper also knows she has to get the truth before someone else falls prey to the murderer when she starts getting threatening messages.
