Stephanie Plum, a bounty hunter in New Jersey, knows better than to meddle with family. However, Stephanie is left to go down formidable gangster Salvatore "Uncle Sunny" Sunucchi when he escapes to Trenton. No one wants to report Uncle Sunny, including his two right-hand men, Moe and Shorty, his bimbo girlfriend, and his poker cronies, for the murderous accusation of running over a person (twice). Just Stephanie's luck, Joe Morelli, Trenton's sexiest police officer, has a stake in the outcome since the godfather is really his godfather. Even though Morelli is aware that the law is what it is, Bella, his grandmother from the old world, is making every effort to divert Stephanie's attention.

Uncle Sunny isn't the only one treating Stephanie badly. In order to unravel the strange death of a top client's mother, who just so happened to play bingo with Stephanie's grandmother Mazur, security expert Ranger needs her assistance. Before Stephanie realizes it, she's collaborating with Ranger and Grandma at the senior facility to apprehend a murderer who has escaped, but their chances of success are not looking good.

Steph will need to step it up for the last showdown since her vehicle has gunshot holes in it, there are thugs after her, and a giraffe called Kevin is loose in Trenton.
