Tatiana and Alexander

When Tatiana leaves war-torn Leningrad to start over in America, she is eighteen years old, pregnant, and widowed. However, her past's ghosts are not simply put to rest. The idea that her spouse, Red Army officer Alexander Belov, is still alive and in dire need of her consumes her.

In the meanwhile, Alexander is forced to command a battalion of men that the Soviet high command views as disposable while he narrowly avoids death in the Soviet Union, thousands of kilometers distant across continents. However, Alexander is certain that he would lead his soldiers across the wreckage of Europe in a last-ditch effort to elude Stalin's murder machine and return to Tatiana.
