I regret to inform you that the book you are now holding is really disagreeable. It's a depressing story about three extremely unfortunate kids. The Baudelaire siblings suffer miserable and difficult lives despite their charm and intelligence. Dread hovers at the children's heels from the first page of this novel, when they are at the beach and hear horrible news, and throughout the whole narrative. It may be said that they are drawn to bad luck.
The three children endure a chilly porridge for breakfast, uncomfortable clothes, a devastating fire, a rapacious and ugly monster, and all of this in this short novel alone.
It is my melancholy responsibility to record these terrible stories, but if you would rather read something cheerful, you are free to put this book down right now.
