The Only Survivors

It was seven hours ago. Presently, seven days. There are now seven surviving. And who would you rescue?

A decade ago, many classmates and instructors perished in a tragedy that occurred when two vans carrying senior high school students on a school service trip drove down a Tennessee ravine. The nine teenagers who made it out of the river that evening will never be the same. A year later, after the suicide death of one survivor on the crash anniversary, the remaining survivors return to an annual gathering to remember that horrific night.

A property on the Outer Banks where they have their yearly gathering has long served as a haven. However, Cassidy Bent has made an effort to put the tragedy and the other survivors behind her by the tenth anniversary. Her cellphone number has been updated. She has disabled email access for the other people. She's resolved to sever the relationship for good this year. However, she gets a text on the day of the reunion with an obituary attached—another survivor had passed away. Now that they are seven, Cassidy is flung back toward the group, irrationally distraught and suspicious.

This year seems strange almost immediately. Cassidy is the first to notice that Amaya, the person in charge of the yearly event, is stressed. If it weren't for the approaching storm, this wouldn't cause concern. All of a sudden, they are once again in danger of blocked highways and rising seas. Amaya then stops answering her phone. She wouldn't purposefully cause them to fear after all they had gone through. Might she?

And each survivor will do all within their power to rescue the others, just as they long ago pledged. Can they not?
