An engrossing psychological thriller about a group of mothers whose babies disappears and forces them to bond unexpectedly.
As a group of new mothers who gave birth in the same month, they refer to themselves as the May Mothers. They gather in Prospect Park twice a week, pushing strollers, to escape the loneliness of being a new mother and to share the pleasures, sorrows, and concerns of their child-centered existence.
The group members envision a lighthearted evening of fun and a quick diversion from their everyday routine as they decide to gather for cocktails at a trendy neighbourhood pub. However, something horrifying goes wrong on this sweltering Fourth of July night in Brooklyn's history: one of the infants is taken from his cot. Midas was six weeks old, and Winnie, a single mother, was hesitant to leave him with a babysitter, but the May Mothers assured her that everything would be well. Now that Midas is gone, the cops are posing unsettling queries, and Winnie's very private existence has been turned into tabloid fodder.
Though none of the other members in the group are close to the reserved Winnie, three of them will go to increasingly risky lengths to help her find her son. In the days that follow, the moms are the focus of media attention, the police botch the investigation, and hurtful secrets are revealed, marriages are put to the test, and friendships are forged and broken.
