"Seeing is believing, but sometimes what we can't see in the world is what's most real."

The youngster takes the Polar Express, a mystery train that is waiting for him late on Christmas Eve after the town has gone to sleep and is headed for the North Pole. Santa gives the youngster whatever present he wants when he gets there. With humility, the kid requests one bell from the reindeer's harness. The present is accepted. The bell disappears while traveling home. The kid discovers the bell under the tree on Christmas morning. Although the boy's mother appreciates the bell, she bemoans the fact that it is broken since, as you can see, only believers can hear the bell's voice.

Chris Van Allsburg crafts an otherworldly Christmas classic in full color painting with odd and shifting hues. Similar to his other visionary works, "The Garden of Abdul Gasazi" (1979), "Jumanji" (1981), and "The Wreck of the Zephyr" (1983), "The Polar Express" inspires a feeling of mystery.

The Polar Express, which won the coveted Caldecott Medal in 1986, has gone on to sell over 7 million copies, establish itself as a classic Christmas film, and inspire stage versions that appear all across the country throughout the holiday season.
