Johann Wolfgang von Goethe is Feb 2005. If you enjoy this novel, it is available for buy as a paperback from Barnes & Noble or Indigo, as an ebook on the Amazon Kindle store, or as an audiobook on Audible.
This 1774 book is Goethe's debut novel. Written in the style of a journal, it narrates the story of a miserable, passionate young guy who is madly in love with Charlotte, a friend's wife, whom he both hates and admires at different times. A key component of the "Sturm und Drang" movement, "The Sorrows of Young Werther" had a significant impact on subsequent "Romanticism." The book is semi-autobiographical in that Goethe went through a similar stormy period in 1772, two years before to its publication, when he lost his heart to Charlotte Buff, who was then engaged to his friend Johann Christian Kestner.
