Introducing Isabel "Izzy" Spellman, private investigator. This twenty-eight-year-old may be addicted to Get Smart reruns, have a messy past filled with romantic blunders, binge drink excessively, and engage in creative vandalism, but ultimately, she excels at her work as a licensed private investigator for her family's company, Spellman Investigations. Izzy has no problem breaching people's privacy. As a matter of fact, it comes easily to every Spellman. Would that they could just leave work at the workplace. Being a Spellman means you have to wiretap, blackmail, spy on, tail, and dig up dirt on other Spellmen.
Izzy, who is equal parts Nancy Drew and Dirty Harry, blurs the boundaries between being a Spellman family member and an employee. Among her responsibilities are finishing assignments from her bosses, Mom and Dad, preferably without drawing attention to them, putting up with her brother, the lawyer, who is always flawless (sometimes under pressure), leading by example for her sister Rae, 14, who is addicted to "recreational surveillance," and finding her uncle, who goes missing on sporadic trips known as "Lost Weekends."
However, Izzy loses it and thinks that leaving the family company is the only way she can ever be normal when her parents employ Rae to follow her in order to find out who Izzy's new boyfriend is. The catch is that before they can release her, she has to complete one final case: a cold case involving a fifteen-year-old missing individual. She agrees, only to have her disappearance occur far closer to home, turning the incident become the most significant case of her life.
