A former CIA agent in a tiny Maine town confronts the demons of her past in this new adaptation of Tess Gerritsen's New York Times bestselling espionage thriller.

Maggie Bird, a former spy, arrived in the coastal community of Purity, Maine, ready to move on after a mission that ended tragically. She is now living in peace on her chicken farm and is nevertheless cautious about the fallout from the circumstances that led to her having to retire early.

Maggie, however, thinks it's a message from her old enemies who haven't forgotten her when a corpse appears in her driveway. In order to find out who is really attempting to murder her and why, Maggie goes to her network of old acquaintances who live in her community and are all retired from the CIA. Even though this "Martini Club" of ex-spies is now retired, they are keen to put their few remaining relevant abilities to use, if only to liven up their otherwise dull new lives.

Jo Thibodeau, Purity's acting police chief, is making their efforts more difficult. Jo is perplexed by Maggie's unwillingness to provide information as well as by her peculiar group of pals, who always seem to be one step ahead of her. Jo is more used to dealing with boisterous visitors than murder.

Jo's research and the Martini Club's strategies will intersect, forcing Maggie to rediscover a covert career that took her from London to Malta and from Bangkok to Istanbul. The demons of Maggie's past have resurfaced, but she may be able to salvage the life she's created with the support of her friends and the hesitant Jo Thibodeau.
