We look on our judges to be intelligent and honest. The whole judicial system is based on their impartiality and honesty. We rely on them to maintain impartial trials, defend the legal rights of all parties involved, punish offenders, and supervise the smooth and effective administration of justice.
However, what happens when a judge disobeys the law or accepts a bribe? Though uncommon, it does occur.
An investigator for the Florida Board on Judicial Conduct is Lacy Stoltz. It is her responsibility as a lawyer to address allegations of judicial misconduct; she is not a police officer. Having served on the Board for nine years, she is aware that ineptitude, not corruption, is the primary source of most issues.
However, she ultimately comes upon a corruption case. A lawyer who was previously excluded from practise has reopened under a new name. He's now going by Greg Myers, and he says he knows of a judge in Florida who has embezzled more money than all the other corrupt judges put together. And not only Florida's corrupt judges. Every judge in American history, from every state.
Where are the advantages that were obtained unfairly? It seems that the judge had a covert hand in the development of a sizable casino on Native American territory. The casino was funded by the Coast Mafia, who currently enjoy a substantial portion of the profits each month. The judge is acquiescing and averting his eyes. There is a good deal: profits are shared by everybody.
Greg, however, is now trying to stop it. He only represents one client, a truth-seeker who want to come out with information so they may sue for millions of dollars in Florida. Greg files a complaint with the Board on Judicial Conduct. Lacy Stoltz is given the case and notes right away that this one seems risky.
Cautionary is one thing. Deadly is a another matter.
