Juliet Armstrong, just eighteen, is unwillingly drafted into the spy world in 1940. She is assigned to a little-known MI5 unit that is in charge of keeping an eye on the movements of those who support fascism in Britain. She finds the job to be alarming and tedious at the same time. However, she believes that the events of those years have been permanently put to the past after the war has concluded.

After working for the BBC for ten years as a radio producer, Juliet is suddenly approached by people from her past. Though the conflict being waged now takes place on a new battlefield, Juliet is once again in danger. It's almost like a bill of reckoning for her, and she starts to understand that nothing happens in a vacuum.
